Beyond Burger flying high on Air New Zealand

The unstoppable advance of alternatives to conventional meat continues unabated. In this case it’s plant based foods company Impossible Foods and their Impossible Burger. Available in “more than 2500 restaurants across the US, from renowned chef David Chang’s Momofuku Nishi restaurant in New York to White Castle and Umami burger outlets.”

Air New Zealand’s Los Angeles kitchen prepares the burger and it’s assembled in flight. It “comes with two plant-based patties, smoked Gouda cheese, caramelised onions and a smear of tomatillo cream. Because fries don’t hold up in the air, it’s served with a side of beetroot relish and pickle.”

The product is now available on Air New Zealand LA to Auckland flights and again chips away at the conventional meat industry. Each high profile release cements the plant based meat concept in the consumers mind and soon it’ll be so common we won’t even bother reporting it!

Time will tell and it’s never been a more interesting time to be in the food industry!
