My take on it all

New food waste reduction technology

Worldwide over USD2 trillion of food is wasted annually. A new product is being used by Costco and Harps in the US  to help combat this by extending the shelf life of their Avocados. Apeel Sciences manufacture the edible product from plant waste and it’s sprayed on “to slow the rate of water loss and oxidation, the two reasons produce spoils quickly.”

The product can be used to extend “the shelf life for dozens of produce categories including bananas, berries, citruses, stone fruit, peppers and asparagus”

It’ll be interesting to see how the consumers react, but if successful it could be a great benefit in the fight against food waste.
