Making green hydrogen greener? That’s the promise of new research using microwave technology. Why is this important for food? Well a lot of new and existing food technologies are energy intensive so sustainable energy is key component of sustainable food production.
Using microwave energy apparently “lowers the operating temperature from 2,372ยฐF (1,300oC) to 752oF (400oC). This makes hydrogen extraction easier and more energy-efficient.” It’s claimed that the process all but “๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐บ๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ CO2 ๐ฒ๐บ๐ถ๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ ๐ฎ๐๐๐ผ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐ต๐๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ด๐ฒ๐ป ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฑ๐๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป.”
Green energy technologies continue to advance, driving down the costs of the energy that powers our society and food production. Fossil fuels and nuclear energy are already uneconomic and the gap will only widen.
