Are you ready for a consumer who doesn’t just use AI, but is actually defined by it?
I’m not talking about Gen Z or even Gen Alpha. I’m talking about the cohort being born right now through to 2039: Generation Beta.
These kids are the world’s first true “AI-natives.” While Gen Alpha are comfortable with PC tablets and voice assistants, Gen Beta will grow up in a world where artificial intelligence isn’t a tool… it’s an environment. It’s the air they breathe. And for those of us in the food, beverage, and agriculture sectors, this represents the single biggest challenge we have ever faced.
Why? Because for Generation Beta, the “average consumer” is dead.
The AI Biological Co-Pilot: Meet the Digital Twin
Just think about this for a minute…
By the time the first wave of Gen Betas are choosing their own snacks, they won’t be looking at a back-of-pack nutrition label. They’ll be consulting their “Digital Twin.”
We are moving rapidly toward a world of “biological precision.” It’s amazing to see the pace at which wearable sensors and non-invasive glucose monitors are evolving. For Gen Beta, these won’t be “gadgets” for athletes or in any way unusual; they’ll be integrated into their lives from day one.
A Digital Twin is essentially a real-time, AI-driven model of an individual’s unique biology. It tracks their microbiome, their genetic predispositions, their current blood sugar levels, even their inflammatory markers and more.

For a Gen Beta consumer, AI acts as a biological co-pilot. Their “co-pilot” will know that a specific brand of oat milk might cause a glucose spike for them, even if it’s “healthy” for their best friend. It will know they need more Vitamin D today because they’ve been indoors, or that their gut microbiome is lacking diversity after a course of antibiotics.
This isn’t science fiction. It’s the future we are building right now. However, many food companies are still trying to sell to a “demographic” when they should be selling to a “biological profile.”
From Calorie Counting to Biological Certainty
In the past, we focused on the “average” 2,000-calorie diet. We counted macros. We looked at “best before” dates.
Generation Beta will view this as ancient history.
They will demand biological certainty. They won’t care if a product says “low fat” or “high protein” if their Digital Twin tells them it’s wrong for their specific metabolic state at [4:00] PM on a Tuesday.

This shift moves the power dynamic of the entire industry. Success will no longer be about who has the biggest marketing budget… it will be about who can provide the data that satisfies Gen Beta’s personal AI. We are talking about the end of “one-size-fits-all” food production.
If you think this sounds complicated, you’re right! But it’s also an amazing opportunity for those brave enough to pivot.
The “Efficiency Trap” vs. Resilience
For decades, the global food system has been obsessed with one thing: EFFICIENCY.
We’ve built massive, rigid supply chains designed to produce millions of identical units of food at the lowest possible cost. We’ve optimised for scale, not for individuals.
I call this the “Efficiency Trap.”
While efficiency is great for profit margins in a stable world, it is the enemy of resilience and personalisation. To feed Generation Beta, we need supply chains that are agile enough to handle “hyper-personalisation” at scale. We need to move from “pushing” products into the market to “pulling” solutions based on real-time biological data.
Most companies are doubling down on the old model, trying to wring out an extra 1% of efficiency while the entire market is shifting beneath their feet. We need to build resilience back into our systems so we can handle the complexity of providing millions of different nutritional solutions, not just millions of the same one.
The Roadmap: Navigating the Future
So, how do you actually prepare for a generation that hasn’t even hit primary school yet?
- Look at the emerging technologies like genomics, the microbiome, synthetic biology, AI, and advanced sensors that are converging to make biological precision possible. What are the signals in the noise today that will be the “normal” of 2035?
- We need to map out the alternative futures. What happens if the Digital Twin is owned by the consumer? What if it’s owned by a tech giant like Apple or Google? We identify the critical uncertainties and prepare for multiple outcomes.
- This step is the “so what?” factor. You then take those insights and turn them into an actionable plan for your business. Including; how do you re-tool your R&D? What partnerships do you need with tech companies? How do you change your value proposition from “selling calories” to “selling health outcomes”?

If you aren’t doing this work now, you’re not just behind… you’re becoming irrelevant.
Stop Targeting the “Average”
My message to food industry leaders is simple: STOP TARGETING THE AVERAGE CONSUMER.
The “average” person will not exist. There is only a collection of billions of unique biological systems, and for the first time in human history, we have the technology to treat them as such.
Generation Beta will be the ultimate challenge because they won’t even understand the concept of a “generic” product. They will expect their food to be as unique as their thumbprint or DNA
