“Brewed lamb protein” for pet food?? A great example of how to use a new technology for animal feed, where the regulatory bars are lower. Taking this tack means that producers can gain manufacturing experience and then scale up for potential human products.
In this case precision fermentation was used to make a novel lamb protein using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This lamb protein was used as the primary protein source at 15%, 30%, or 40% in dog food and tested on 40 dogs for 26 weeks. As they say in the research paper https://lnkd.in/gtHW6yDA “Digestibility was similar among all study foods, except that fat digestibility was lower in foods with the test ingredient. Altogether, these results indicate that the test ingredient is safe for use in dog food.”
