Another signal that the food and health industries are converging as The Kerry Group acquires Spanish biotech company Biosearch Life. We’ve seen an acceleration of consumer interest in immune support and healthy eating generally. These trends may slow a little post-COVID (whenever that is!) but they’re an inexorable trend.
This is reflected in this acquisition as it allows Kerry “to address a wider range of health need states, including healthy aging, joint health and digestive health”. This again emphasises the ever increasing trend of food as a source of wellness, not illness. Companies need to find a way of addressing this trend or many will risk irrelevance in the eyes of consumers.
This industry convergence could take decades but looks inevitable as consumers look to eat for their health, not just for fuel.
